Program Description
The Computer Systems Technology Program prepares students to enter a career in computer support as part of an Information Technology team. Students will learn how to diagnose and solve computer problems, upgrade computer systems, properly install computer components, and maintain computers in a Windows or network environment. Students gain necessary skills to become support/service/bench or helpdesk technicians.
This program prepares students to take national exams which can earn them professional industry certifications such as the A+ (Computer Service Technician) often required by Information Technology support staff.
Curriculum Components
• PC system hardware and software skills
• Computer diagnostic analysis and maintenance
• Principles of computer network systems
• Effective management of the Windows and computer network
environments
• Knowledge and applied skill in the use of various
common computer applications such as word processing,
spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software
• Internet administration and support
Second-Year Opportunity
Students who successfully complete the first year can apply for Year-Two to work on Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), in combination with co-op placement, will help students qualify for this challenging license respected by Information Technology support staff. Students successfully completing the second-year program can qualify 4 college credits through the Community College of Vermont.
Career Academy Opportunity and Rewards
All students at the Center for Technology may seek eligibility for enrollment in a variety of college level courses offered through the University of Vermont, Champlain College and the Community College of Vermont. Each course can earn a student three college credits - many of which are accepted by other colleges and universities. Motivated students who take advantage of these advanced placement programs can acquire a full semester toward their college degree. The first year program features a dual enrollment program with CCV by which students can earn up to eight credits Students in the second year program can earn four credits for Cisco Networking.
