Building Technology

Program Description
The Building Technology Program prepares students to properly and safely operate hand and power tools used in the trade. Students gain basic and advanced skills and essential worker traits needed to gain employment in the construction industry. Eligible students work in either a residential or commercial construction site in a Career Work Experience. To be eligible for a Career Work Experience, a student must maintain a class grade point average of 80 or better.

Career Academy Opportunity and Rewards
Building Technology is an Associated General Contractor certified program.

Students who graduate from the program with a grade point average of 85 or higher are eligible for acceptance into Vermont Technical College's Construction Practices and Management Associate Degree Program and may receive up to five credits toward their degree at VTC.

Students demonstrating advanced skills are eligible for various apprenticeship programs offered through this program. Some students may enroll in licensed apprenticeship courses of study for electricians and plumbers accredited through the Vermont Department of Employment & Training.

All students at the Center for Technology may seek eligibility for enrollment in a variety of college level courses offered through Champlain College, University of Vermont and the Community College of Vermont. Each course provides students an opportunity to earn three college credits - many of which are accepted by other colleges and universities. Motivated students who take advantage of these advanced placement programs can acquire a full semester toward their college degree.
